This review of Wednesday night’s program at the Jay Pritzker Pavillion at Millennium Park makes me glad, and proud, that I was there:
Representatives of the festival, the Park District and the city’s Cultural Affairs Department also could not help noticing that this was a listening crowd. Even the many picnickers were focused on the brisk musicmaking of principal conductor Carlos Kalmar and the Grant Park Orchestra.
That was me! Listening and picnicking. Drinkin’ wine and taking in the brisk musicmaking. Ah, yeah, it was a beautiful night and I highly recommend this to Chicagoists and tourists alike. Great sound and cool crowds, including the kind group who opened our bottle of wine after we forgot a corkscrew. Sitting around a little table, these high-enders were doing it up right, with grilled salmon and salads to go with their Beethoven. The good life, people, the good life.
